My First Impression

I am always on the hunt for scams, and it is in my nature to be skeptical UNTIL I’m proven wrong. Here are some notable red flags I’ve come across after digging around their site:

  1. Their logo looks low-effort and tacky.
  2. Their product names are keyword-stuffed.
  3. They have badges at the bottom of their homepage saying this like ‘Secure Payments’, ‘Affordable Price’, ‘Amazing Quality, etc.
  4. All of their items with reviews are 5 stars.
  5. This is a product description for one of their dresses, “The Dress is one of my favorite dresses to ever come to the shop. It’s so flattering and comfy! The top is smocked, but it is very stretchy.” Sounds like a poorly written ‘review’.
  6. The font on some of their pages is very small.
  7. Some of their pages have poorly written English. For example, “Here, you’ll find no cookie-cutter inventory…”
  8. The Applicable Law section of their Terms & Conditions page says, “…in accordance with the laws of France”. I’ve noticed France and the U.K. are common countries to use with scammy shops.

There are many more red flags that I left out and undoubtedly missed. This is just my initial overview of the shop’s website – keep scrolling for a deeper dive!

About Petallush

Are They Ethical?

Please note that sustainability is complex and can be difficult to determine from the consumer's end. My response here is based on information provided by this shop, context clues, tell-tale signs, etc. Since my blog is not focused on proving sustainability claims, I encourage you to further research.

No, they likely are not. They don’t state anything on their site regarding efforts to be ethical/sustainable. Check out this article What Is Fast Fashion, Anyway? by the good trade to learn more about fast fashion, sustainability, and how to spot it from a mile away!

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits a size too big. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is bad but wearable. The material is paper thin, and the sewing is crooked in some areas. See my to know my current quality-rating standards.

Value: It is NOT worth the price I paid.

2) Half-Sleeve V-Neck Cotton Embroidered Midi Dress

Brand Label: Unknown

Color/Size/Cost: White / M / $59.00

Country: Made in China

Material: 100% Cotton

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits one size too big. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Quality:In my opinion, the quality is decent. The embroidery seems to be sewn well, and it has a thin inner lining preventing it from being see-through and protecting the back of the embroidery. However, the buttons are cheaply made and aren’t sewn on sturdily, and there are a handful of long loose threads on the inside of the dress. See my to know my current quality-rating standards.

Value: I wouldn’t pay full price for this, but I think it could be a fair price if it were on sale.

3) Fall Long-Sleeve Classic-Neck Shacket

Brand Label: Unknown

Color/Size/Cost: Green / M / $30.00

Country: Made in China

Material: 25% Cotton / 75% Polyester

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well. Although, mine is several inches shorter than the one in the product image, the material is similar to a long-sleeve blouse/shirt (nothing even close to a jacket), and the pockets are quite small. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Quality:In my opinion, the quality is okay. The inside has sloppily sewn sections along with excess threads that were not removed. Also, the the metal-looking adjusters at the bottom are made of plastic with a cheap silver coating. See my to know my current quality-rating standards.

Value: I wouldn’t pay full price for this, but it could be a fair price if it were on sale.

4) Lace Halter-Strap Tankini Set

Brand Label: Unknown

Color/Size/Cost: Black / L / $33.50

Country: Made in China

Material: 85% Polyester / 15% Spandex

Is Petallush Legit? Here’s What You Need to Know (7)

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but not the right fit for my proportions. Unfortunately, this is a set and I can’t pick different sizes for the top and bottom. The top fits like a loose L, and the bottoms fit more like an M. I need the opposite! View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Quality:In my opinion, the quality is mediocre. It is not fully lined – the bottoms are only lined in the front half.See my to know my current quality-rating standards.

Value: If the bottoms were fully covered (like a swim skirt for example), the bottoms not being fully lined would be less of an issue. But since these are mostly exposed, this tankini is NOT worth the price I paid. I expect a fully lined swimsuit for over $30!

Customer Service Experience

Responsiveness

Support was responsive and responded to each of my emails within a day. However, I had to ask for the return address THREE TIMES before they gave it to me.

Return

Upon emailing them about returning my items, they told me to send them a photo of the hygiene sticker on the swimsuit prior to approving my return. After doing so, they provided me with the following return/refund options:

  • First Email:
    1. “…refund you $50 to your original payment as compensation and you keep the item/s withoutreturning?”
    2. “…how about you keep the item withoutreturn/exchangeand we offer you a $166 gift card?”
  • Second Email: “…is it acceptable for us torefundyou half of the exact price you paid for the items, i.e. $83 in total, and then you keep the items withoutreturn/exchange?”
  • Third Email: “…how about werefundyou a total of $100, almost 70% of the price you paid, and you keep the item/s, noreturnsor exchanges?”
  • Fourth Email: “As to the partialrefund, how about $116? The maximum we can offer.”

I rejected all offers and moved forward with a standard return/refund back to my original payment. They asked that I email them the return tracking number within 7 days of receiving the return address.

A company highlighting how burdensome it would be for you to move forward with a return and being OVERLY persistent about taking a partial refund instead is a HUGE red flag!

Refund/PayPal Claim

I followed up on the status of the refund on 11/22 (I mailed the package on 10/11). I got a partial refund the same day. I asked about the remainder of the refund and was told they didn’t receive an item. At this point, I filed a PayPal claim. I let PayPal know that I returned all four items, was only refunded for three, and that it had been nearly 50 days since the delivery of my return package. Petallush responded to the claim stating that I only returned three items. I let PayPal know that I have no idea what happened on Petallush’s side, but I can confirm that I sent everything. They ended up closing the claim in my favor and I received a full refund.

‘Sister’ Sites

Read this List of Online Stores that I suspect the owner of Petallush also owns and operates. I put this list together using plagiarism tools like Copyleaks (premium), and by looking for clues like identical landing pages, matching site logos, PayPal merchant names (if there are similarities to my other orders), business addresses, site layouts, etc.

Reverse Image Search

Petallush appears to be the source of their product images.

Website/Company Search

Better Business Bureau Alert: “On September 28, 2023, BBB Serving Los Angeles and Silicon Valley requested that the business substantiate, modify, or discontinue claims advertised on their website. The company advertises Sales and “unbeatable prices”. As of October 23, 2023, the business has failed to respond to our request for substantiation, modification, or discontinuation of the advertised claims.” Check out Petallush’s BBB profile for more info.

My Recommendation

Based on my experience, this company is a SCAM and I would avoid shopping here. After waiting over 40 days for a refund and not hearing from them, I followed up with Petallush. They refunded me for 3 out of the 4 items I returned. When I asked about the remaining refund, support kept saying their warehouse hadn’t received the fourth item. I gave them five more days to ‘receive it’, but they didn’t. At that point, I filed a claim, and PayPal sided with me and gave me a refund. It was such a frustrating experience! So, although you may find a few items that are decent, I personally do not think they are worth your money or time.
